Pitch perfect Zorba the parrot reunites with owner

first_imgIn a very weird day at the office, UK police have reunited a grey parrot with its owner after the very intelligent bird immediately mimicked his owner’s voice perfectly. Alan Lazarus’ three-year-old African grey escaped after his cage was being cleaned and was lost for six weeks. Zorba’s odyssey was fraught with peril, showing signs that he was attacked by crows after his identifying leg ring was lost. Several people had tried to catch the distressed bird, including the RSPCA and the fire brigade, but after ruffling a couple of people’s feathers, Zorba was finally was brought to the Stoke Newington Police Station. With Mr Lazarus trying desperately to find him, Police called him in to show that he indeed was Zorba’s owner.Armed with a video and papers showing he had bought him as a hand-reared chick from a breeder in Leicester, police were still weary.A bird like Zorba costs in excess of $4000.But the police were missing a key witness. It didn’t click that Zorba himself would be able to help the investigation. “While they were questioning me my mobile phone rang and I tried to turn it off. But as I did Zorba answered the phone in my voice, saying: ‘Hello, hello, hello’,” Mr Lazarus said to UK newspaper Express.“He imitated my voice perfectly. The police were dumbstruck and had big smiles on their faces. They knew immediately I was the rightful owner.”Mr Lazarus, a Turkish kebab shop owner never doubted his clever bird who he considers “like a child”.He says Zorba speaks over 1000 words, including a bit of Turkish. The whole ordeal has made Mr Lazarus a little more cautious.‘He’s back home now, eating well and talking beautifully,” he says.“But we’ve also had him microchipped just in case he disappears again.”Source: Express Facebook Twitter: @NeosKosmos Instagramlast_img
