The Skyline High boys golf team has won consecutive state titles in Utah, but this week they won a national championship, capturing the 2020 Boys High School Golf National Invitational in Pinehurst, North Carolina.Competing against the top high school golf teams in the country, Skyline defeated Florida in the three-day competition by three strokes with a 903 total. The Eagles entered the final day of competition three strokes off the pace, but rallied to win behind Tyson Shelley, who finished 24th individually with a three-day total of 223. “We all played really well and stayed consistent all week,” said Shelley. “Our goal each day was to play steady and all keep it in the 70s. It feels so good to win. Utah is an underrated state, and this is a good way for us to put our name on the map.”Other Skyline team members were Sean Lam, Joseph Kim, Simon Kwon and Peter Kim, who was one shot behind Shelley at 224.Utah’s Lone Peak High finished eighth overall, led by Parker Reese’s seventh-place finish at 215.Arizona won the girls division with a three-day total of 920.
