first_imgBarnes claims Liverpool now favourites over Man Cityby Freddie Taylor10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveLiverpool legend John Barnes believes the club are now favourites to win the league. With Manchester City losing three out of their past four league games, they are seven points behind the Reds. Tottenham are six behind in second place. Many fans believe that if the Reds can come through the next few games with their league in tact, it is theirs to lose. And Barnes agrees they are now favourites.”I had Man City as favourites until the last two games, but I’d make Liverpool favourites now,” he said to BonusCodeBets.co.uk. “It’s not necessarily ‘theirs to lose’, I just think the Premier League is so difficult now.”Once upon a time, the top five teams weren’t necessarily going to drop points, but these days you can see with Crystal Palace and Leicester beating City, that can actually happen. “So it’s much more difficult now to win the Premier League from a winning position.”Numerically, it’s theirs to lose in terms of numbers they have on the board, but in terms of the difficulty of the competition, it’s definitely not finished. “If they were six points ahead coming into April, then obviously it would be, so for now I make them favourites, but it’s not a foregone conclusion.” About the authorFreddie TaylorShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

One of his first moves on the job was to fire head football coach Bill Cubit, who took over for Tim Beckman last August. While the sense of urgency is somewhat understandable, given Illinois’ recent troubles, multiple Illini players and signees took to Twitter shortly after the news came out. Murphy, who has offers from Alabama and Ole Miss, has announced that he’ll be playing at Mississippi State. Murphy did say, however, that he’d still like other teams to recruit him and show interest. So while he’s committing to Mississippi State, it doesn’t appear that he’s willing to shut off communication with other programs. Match Preview Phil Foden Manchester City 2018-19Burton Albion’s dream of a cup final was well and truly crushed in the first leg as they suffered their biggest defeat since being promoted into the Football League.City didn’t take their foot off the gas throughout the entire 90 minutes in the previous fixture and Guardiola is still insistent that he wants to see improvement from his team once again.”We start the game with 9-0, so that’s an unusual situation, but the approach is to improve every single game,” the City boss said.”The last game (was) not perfect in understanding the way to attack. It was difficult for many reasons. It depends on the way we defend, how we attack more fluently. That’s what I want to see tomorrow.”The current holders stand on the edge of history with another win here as it would represent the first time they have reached back-to-back League Cup finals. If City can win by three goals or more they will break the record for the biggest aggregate win in the competition’s history which currently stands at 11 goals. The second leg is unlikely to affect who progresses in the competition but Burton will hope to give a good account of themselves in front of their own fans to end a cup run which has exceeded all expectations.last_img read more

Urban Meyer Releases Official Statement In Response To Brett McMurphy’s Report

first_imgA closeup of Urban Meyer before an Ohio State football game.ANN ARBOR, MI – NOVEMBER 28: Head coach Urban Meyer of the Ohio State Buckeyes watches warm ups before the start of their game against the Michigan Wolverines at Michigan Stadium on November 28, 2015 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. (Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer has released an official statement in response to Brett McMurphy’s report. Meyer, in short, contends that regarding the 2015 alleged incident involving former wide receivers coach Zach Smith, he followed “proper protocol and procedure.”Wednesday, McMurphy, a former ESPN reporter, issued a report that suggested that Meyer lied when he told reporters at Big Ten Media Days that he had no knowledge of 2015 allegations of domestic violence against Smith. In response, Ohio State placed Meyer on paid administrative leave and launched an internal investigation into the matter. Meyer’s job status has been a popular topic in the time since. In the note, Meyer admitted he was not “prepared” for questions about the incident at Big Ten Media Days last week. He also essentially admits that he lied when he told reporters that he did not know of the incident. Here’s the entire statement, transcribed:“Dear Buckeye Nation:My heart is heavy today as I witness the toll that events of the past week have taken on the Buckeye Family and the university community that I love so dearly. When I stand before the 105 young men in our football program and talk about core values and doing the right thing and respecting women, it is not lip-service. I genuinely believe that we have an obligation to help develop the young men in our charge into positive change agents and that responsibility rests with me.Over the past several days, I have been portrayed as being indifferent to domestic violence and as someone who did not take appropriate action when warranted. While over three decades of coaching I have learned to ignore how others define me, I do feel it necessary to share the truth with the Buckeye family. Here is the truth: While at the University of Florida, and now at The Ohio State University, I have always followed proper protocols and procedures when I have learned of an incident involving a student-athlete, coach or member of our staff by elevating the issues to the proper channels. And, I did so regarding the Zach Smith incident in 2015. I take that responsibility very seriously and any suggestion to the contrary is simply false. The power of what I say and how I say it, especially regarding sensitive and serious domestic issues, has never been more evident than now. My words, whether in a reply to a reporter’s question or in addressing a personnel issue, must be clear, compassionate and most of all, completely accurate. Unfortunately, at Big Ten Media Days on July 24th, I failed on many of these fronts. My intention was not to say anything inaccurate or misleading. However, I was not adequately prepared to discuss these sensitive personnel issues with the media, and I apologize for the way I handled those questions.I understand that there are more questions to be answered and I look forward to doing just that with the independent investigators retained by the University and I will cooperate fully with them. At the appropriate time, I will also address the questions and speculation in a public forum. But for now, out of respect for the ongoing inquiry, I will refrain at this time. Please know that the truth is the ultimate power and I am confident that I took appropriate action. As I stated above, I deeply regret if I have failed in my words. As the son of an amazing woman and the husband to another and, as the father of two incredible young women, those who know me best know the admiration and respect I have for all women. Our core values are just that—values that do not ever waver.I ask that you continue to support the incredible coaches and student-athletes in our program, and I look forward to rejoining them soon.Sincerely,Urban Meyer”Here’s the tweet itself:pic.twitter.com/wrlRi9jtZz— Urban Meyer (@OSUCoachMeyer) August 3, 2018It’s hard to know where this all goes from here. Meyer hints that there’s more to the story – and we’ll likely find out what he’s referencing in the coming days.last_img read more

The Huskers lost their starting QB late in the fourth quarter of the close loss to the Buffaloes. What is Martinez’ status moving forward? Here is the latest injury update for the Huskers’ quarterback.Martinez is questionable for today.
